| | Sunday 8th July | | 43 people attended Mass yesterday and there were 12 at Evening Prayer. The Church Council met after Evening Prayer. | | Ministry in the parish | | The Church Council unanimously voted to nominated Chris Hartley for the post of Ordained Local Minister in the parish. This would mean that if Chris is accepted by the Church’s national procedures, he will go forward to training and then become a support priest in the parish. The Church Council also considered lay ministers to help with ministry in the church and parish. Volunteers are being sought. The nomination then needs to be agreed by the Church Council and then some training will be done in the Autumn. | | Fr John Grant | | Fr John retired as a Chaplain at Hope Hospital last week. He continues his work as a Liberal Democrat Councillor on Manchester City Council. Bishop Nigel has appointed Fr John to be an honorary assistant priest at St Chrysostom’s. I’m sure we all welcome this appointment. This means Fr John will be able to help out in leading worship and helping in the parish – but we also need to remember he is retired! | | Mission in the Parish | | Earlier in the year the Church Council set up two ‘think tanks’ to discuss mission and outreach in the parish. The meetings have taken place and many ideas came forward. At Sunday’s Church Council a ‘Mission Action Plan’ was agreed and there is a copy on the notice board at the back of Church, and copies to take home on the table at the back. | | This and that | | Well done to Fliss Smith and the Choir of St John’s School, for their performance at the Manchester Showcase concert on Tuesday evening. The choir sang very well and the whole concert was excellent….On Monday (16th) St Chrysostom’s School are coming to Church at 10am for an end of year celebration. …The Walsingham Cell meets on Friday at Yvonne Douglas’ home. | | | | Looking ahead | | There will be no newsletters on a Sunday in church until the end of August. The e mail newsletter will be issued less frequently in July and August. On Sunday August 26th there will be no Evening Service at St Chrysostom’s. Instead we will be going to Warburton old church for Evensong. Volunteers are needed during the weeks beginning August 20th and August 27th, to help prepare our Student Guide, and material for our open weekend at the beginning of September. Desmond and Michael invite you to afternoon tea at their home on Saturday 1st September. Full details later. | | | |
